SCA Sensory Professional Course


With the Sensory Professional course you have to OPTION of sitting a written SCA examination at the end of the course (you will also be asessed on some practical elements). If you choose to sit the written exam and you pass you will receive a formal SCA Certificate, this is ACCREDITED. If you choose not to sit the exam, then the course is NON ACCREDITED. For each accreditation you will receive points which contribute towards the SCA Coffee Diploma. The number of points you earn for each course is shown below. There is an additional fee for accredited courses which are also shown below.

ACCREDITED (existing SCA member) £760

ACCREDITED (non SCA member): £800

Points towards SCA Diploma:

Duration: 3 Days. A light lunch is included each day or you may do your own thing.

Requirements: Completing the Introduction to Coffee is preferred and it would make sense to have this knowledge beforehand. You should also have completed the Sensory Foundation and Intermediate levels. There must be a minimum 3 month gap between the Intermediate and Professional courses.

Course Content

  • Conducting industry standards sensory study, evaluation and analysis
  • Detecting coffee defects and irregularities
  • Identifying negative tastes and aromas
  • Develop cupping expertise
  • Increase and develop vocabulary and consistency
  • Develop the ability to apply sensory skills
